Shannon Cox, superintendent of Montgomery County Educational Service Center in Dayton, Ohio, discusses how to use artificial intelligence in human-centered ways that reclaim extend tutoring access, and make learning more accessible, especially for students with disabilities.
While AI has the potential to advance equity, Cox says, without intentional work around access, broadband, and adult readiness, it could deepen divides between students who have devices, connectivity, and guided instruction and those who do not.
She cautions that these tools must remain guided by human judgment and clear purpose, with professional learning focused on why and how to use them, not on replacing educators’ expertise.
Cox was a co-presenter on a Thursday afternoon roundtable titled “AI, Accessibility, and Agency: Designing for Inclusion in the Digital Classroom.”
