Friend of AASA Award Given to Chan at Opening Session

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative received the Friend of AASA Award at the 1st General Session from Executive Director Daniel Domenech.

Priscilla Chan Zuckerberg, co-founder and co-CEO of the initiative, accepted the award prior to delivering the opening keynote address at the AASA national conference on Thursday, Feb. 18.

AASA presents this award to a non-educator or an organization that consistently supports the mission of AASA and commits effort to help the association accomplish its goals to advocate on behalf of public education and assist with the professional development of AASA members.

In making the presentation, Domenech said: “Through your generosity and the generosity of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the three-year $400,000 grant provided to AASA has allowed us to explore and strengthen policies and programs superintendents and other administrators are creating to advance social and emotional learning outcomes for students nationwide.”

Chan is a pediatrician and educator. She is the founder of The Primary School, which integrates health and education and serves children and families in East Palo Alto, Calif., and the Belle Haven neighborhood in Menlo Park, Calif.
