New Orleans Leader Nabs Save The Music Honor

The VH1 Save The Music Foundation award, given in cooperation with AASA, was presented to the superintendent of St. John the Baptist Parish School District in New Orleans, Kevin George.

The annual honor recognizes a superintendent or chief executive officer who is committed to ensuring that music education is part of the core curriculum in all schools in his or her school district.

Eligible school leaders have partnered with the VH1 Save The Music Foundation in launching or restoring their music education program and their districts have a significant number of students from financially challenged circumstances.

As a special surprise to George, AASA arranged for the John L. Ory Choir, under the direction of Kristin Brooks, from the winner’s school district to come onto the stage to perform one number. About 30 young students wowed the appreciative crowd before heading off the stage while getting congratulatory hand slaps from the superintendent.
