Pair of Veteran Education Leaders Cited for Distinguished Service at AASA Confab

Two outstanding educators, including the immediate past president of the association, received AASA’s Distinguished Service Award during AASA’s National Conference on Education in San Diego.

The 2020 recipients are Christopher Gaines, superintendent of Mehlville School District in suburban St. Louis, Mo., and AASA president in 2018-19; and Johnny L. Veselka, who retired in 2018 after serving as executive director of the Texas Association of School Administrators for more than 32 years.

The Distinguished Service honorees are recognized by AASA for bringing honor to themselves, their colleagues and their profession; rendering exemplary service to their state or national professional association; and contributing to the education field through writing, public advocacy or other activities.

More details about the honorees and the award can be found in the official AASA press release.
