Marking a Decade of Social Connections with an Interactive Wall at Conference’s Social Media Lounge

The Social Media Lounge hosted a reception on "What Not to Do on Social Media" in 2022.

The Social Media Lounge will celebrate its 10th year at AASA’s 2024 National Conference on Education in San Diego.

Located at Exhibit Hall booth 1422, the Social Media Lounge is a key destination, offering a fun space for conference attendees to connect with and learn from social media-savvy superintendents. To celebrate its 10th year, it will feature a revamped logo, a selfie wall and a reception from 1-2 p.m. on Feb. 15.

Two sessions will take place in the lounge:

  • The Future of Social Media: How Different Platforms, Politics and Hot Topics Affect Superintendents' Use of Social Media at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 15 with moderator LaTonya Goffney, superintendent, Aldine, Texas, and panelists Glenn Robbins, superintendent, Brigantine, N.J.; Barbara Mullen, superintendent, Rush-Henrietta, N.Y., Michael Lubelfeld, superintendent, North Shore, Ill.; Nick Polyak, superintendent, Leyden, Ill.; and Heidi Sipe, superintendent, Umatilla, Ore.
  • The Social Dilemma of AI: How Superintendents and Districts Can Ethically Leverage AI at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 with moderator Matthew Montgomery, superintendent, Lake Forest, Ill.; and panelists Kirk Koennecke, superintendent, Indian Hill, Ohio; Jerry Almendarez, superintendent, Santa Ana, Calif.; Leslie Torres-Rodriguez, superintendent, Hartford, Conn.; A. Katrise Lee-Perera, superintendent, Lancaster, Texas; and Dan Cox, superintendent, Rochester, Ill.

The 2024 Social Media Lounge sponsors are BootUp, Code.org, STOPit Solutions and Renaissance.

New this year, the conference will feature an interactive social media wall to boost attendee engagement. Attendees can join the conversation on the wall in one of three ways:

  • By using #NCE2024 on all conference posts on their personal social channels;
  • By clicking the magenta ‘Create Post’ button here; or
  • By scanning the QR code featured around the conference center TV screens.

Amusing digital photo selfie frames will be available on the wall as well.

Visit the Social Media button in the conference app to visit the interactive social wall or click here.
