Horace Mann League, Marking Its 100th Anniversary, Installs New Leadership at AASA Conference Luncheon

The pro-public education agency organization, the Horace Mann League, will install new officers during the group’s annual luncheon meeting on Friday at the Omni Hotel in Nashville.

Those assuming leadership positions for 2022 are:

President: Ruben Alejandro, former superintendent, Weslaco School District, Texas

President-elect: Brent Clark, executive director, Illinois Association of School Administrators

Vice President: Bill Mathis, executive manager, National Education Policy Center

Past President: James Harvey, former executive director, National Superintendents Roundtable

Board directors: Gregg Fuerstenau, superintendent, Litchfield Community Schools, Illinois; Brian Schmidt, superintendent, Genesee Valley Central School District, New York; Joshua Starr, executive director, Phi Delta Kappan; Jimmy Minichello, director of media relations, AASA, The School Superintendents Association; Lisa Parady, executive director, Alaska Council of School Administrators; Andi Fourlis, superintendent, Mesa Public Schools, Arizona

Reappointed to the board are Virginia Cardenas, education consultant, Mission, Texas; and Martha Bruckner, executive director, Metropolitan Omaha Education Consortium, Omaha, Neb.

Jack McKay is the longtime executive director of the Horace Mann League, which is marking its 100th anniversary. Founded in 1922, the organization exists to perpetuate the ideals of Horace Mann, the founder of the American public school system. Its basic purpose and activities are to strengthen the nation’s public schools.

The league traditionally holds its annual meeting during the AASA National Conference on Education each February.
