AASA, The School Superintendents Association will fete two recipients of the 2023 Dr. Effie H. Jones Humanitarian Award on Thursday, Feb. 16, at its national conference in San Antonio, Texas.
They will be honored at a 12:30 p.m. luncheon on Friday in Room 221-CD. All seats for the event have been sold.
The two honorees are:
- Avis Williams, superintendent, New Orleans, La.; and
- Brenda Elliott, chief, office of school improvements and supports with the District of Columbia Public Schools.
They were selected for this award because they exemplify the qualities modeled by the late Dr. Effie Hall Jones, a school administrator, teacher, counselor and former AASA associate executive director.
The award is an annual recognition of education leaders committed to the advancement and mentorship of women and minorities, and/or addressing social justice issues among children and adults in schools.
