Foursome of Veteran Educators Cited for Distinguished Service at AASA’s 2022 Conference

Four outstanding educators, including the immediate past president of the association, are receiving AASA’s Distinguished Service Awards during the organization’s 2022 National Conference on Education in Nashville.

They will be honored at the conference’s 2nd General Session on Friday.

The honorees are Sheldon H. Berman, a retired superintendent who led school systems in Massachusetts, Kentucky and Oregon over 28 years; Jim Mahoney, the first executive director of Battelle for Kids; Jule Walker, a retired superintendent who led two Montana school districts over 21 years; and Kristi Wilson, superintendent of the Buckeye Elementary School District in Arizona and the immediate past president of AASA.

The Distinguished Service Award honorees are recognized by AASA for bringing honor to themselves, their colleagues and their profession; rendering exemplary service to their state or national professional association; and contributing to the education field through writing, public advocacy or other activities.
