Suicide Prevention Leader and Special Education Attorney Named 2023 Friends of AASA at Annual Conference in San Antonio

AASA will recognize two individuals with the Friend of AASA Award during the association’s 2023 National Conference on Education in San Antonio, Texas.

The two recipients are:

  • Rebecca Benghiat, president and chief operating officer, The Jed Foundation, New York, N.Y.; and
  • Chris Borreca, partner and attorney, Thompson & Horton LLP, Houston, Texas.

Benghiat’s organization is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing suicide and protecting the emotional health of our nation’s youth and young adults.

Borreca has represented school clients in special education and general school law matters for 30 years.

This award is given by AASA’s executive director to a non-educator, school district-based person or group/organization that has consistently supported the mission of AASA and has given their time and effort to help the association accomplish its goals to advocate on behalf of public education and assist with the professional development of its members.
