As a second-year superintendent, I am incredibly excited to attend my first AASA National Conference on Education! This conference represents an unparalleled opportunity to step outside the day-to-day operations of my district, engage with fellow leaders from across the country, and gain fresh insights into the challenges and opportunities we face in education today.
One of the greatest benefits of attending a national conference is the chance to expand our thinking. As district leaders, we sometimes find ourselves in a rut, approaching challenges with the same perspective day after day. But when we step into a space filled with innovative thinkers, diverse experiences, and proven strategies, we discover new ways to tackle problems that once seemed impossible. The power of collaboration and learning from others is why I believe it is essential for district leaders to invest in their own professional growth.
To make the most of this experience, I strongly encourage attendees to take time before arriving to plan their conference experience. Reviewing the session offerings ahead of time ensures you prioritize the most relevant and impactful topics. Additionally, downloading the conference app is a game-changer—it provides access to the schedule, session descriptions, and, most importantly, a list of attendees. I highly recommend browsing the attendee list and strategizing connections with colleagues you’d like to meet in person. Some of my best learning at conferences has taken place not just in formal sessions but through informal conversations with peers who bring different perspectives and experiences.
I am also thrilled to be leading a Round Table Session on Thursday titled “Launching a Comprehensive Community Engagement Plan.” If you’re looking to build stronger relationships with your community and create meaningful dialogue between your district and stakeholders, I’d love for you to join me. Let’s connect, share ideas, and learn from one another.
I look forward to an inspiring few days of learning, connecting, and growing as a leader. If you're attending, I hope you’ll take full advantage of the sessions, engage in great discussions, and make connections that will support you long after the conference ends.
Safe travels, and I hope to see you there!
